What types of entrance exams are available for international students?

A.

There are mainly three types:

  1. FGL Program: It offer the following three undergraduate degree courses taught in English. For the 2026 enrollment will be the last one. A new English-taught program, "Gateway College," will launch in 2027.
    ・AMC (Advanced Molecular Chemistry) course (BS)
    ・IMAC-U (International Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) course (BE)
    ・AMB (Applied Marine Biology) course (BA)

  2. Gateway College: Gateway College is a new undergraduate education program that Tohoku University will launch in April 2027. Under this program, students will not choose their field of study (faculty or department) at the time of admission. Instead, they will engage with various academic disciplines before deciding on their specialization from the third year onward, based on the concept of late specialization.

  3. For Privately Financed International Students: This program is taught in Japanese, requires a high level of Japanese proficiency for admission, and enrollment is only in April.
